During a press briefing on Sunday, September 5, the Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful announced that all citizens were required to re-register their SIM cards beginning October 1.

The re-registration exercise is expected to end on March 31, 2022. According to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the National Identity Card (Ghana Card) is the only ID that will be acceptable for the re-registration process.

“Only the National ID card, the Ghana card, issued to an individual shall be used for registration of Sim cards of citizens, foreign residents in Ghana and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said.

Thus, without the National ID Card, citizens risk having their SIM Card blocked.
