Dealing With Conflict in The Workplace

Let’s be honest, we’ve all had days at work where we’ve felt like things are just too much. We juggle our personal lives, hectic deadlines and then some work conflict to top it all off. We need to accept that this is part of a normal life. Nothing in life is ever perfect, but there are definitely some steps we can take to make it run a little smoother.

One of the most important things we take for granted is mutual respect for our co-workers. Simply taking a step back and respecting your peers can have such a huge impact on improving your working environment and productivity. If we are honest, this is something we all strive for.

What happens when you treat people with respect?

It builds stronger relationships and boosts productivity
Showing respect to your peers will have an immediate positive impact on your relationships at work. When relationships at work improve, people start to trust each other. Meaning that they will be able to work more efficiently as a team, which is great for productivity.

Workplace conflict will decrease
Workplace conflicts are part of healthy relationships. Although conflict is not our favourite topic, it leads to growth and change. Change is good. The one thing we tend to forget when it comes to workplace conflict is to show respect. When one is in a conflicting situation and you still show respect, the situation won’t explode and cause unnecessary unhappiness.

It reduces stress and increases understanding
Don’t we all need a little less stress in our lives? Simply by being respectful at work, you will be able to understand and communicate in a better way. Understanding each other helps you work as a team instead of working separately. The outcome of this is that you will be able to balance your workload and take care of those little stressful situations easily. Being part of a team offers way more support than standing alone.

All in all, it’s easy to say we should all get in touch with our inner Aretha Franklin and show some respect.
