Ghana@62: Allowance of Ghana Police on peacekeeping increased – Akufo-Addo

The allowance of Ghana Police Service personnel on peacekeeping duties abroad has been increased from US$30 to US$35 per day, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced.

Mr Akufo-Addo made the revelation while delivering his speech at the 62nd Independence Day Anniversary parade held in Tamale in the Northern Region on Wednesday, 6 March 2019.

He stated: “I’m pleased to announce, like our armed forces who serve with distinction on peacekeeping duties, members of the police service who represent us abroad have also seen their daily allowances increased from 30 to 35 United States dollars.”

At the same event, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the 2018 UN Female Police Officer of the year, Chief Superintendent Phyllis Osei, on her achievement.

Chief Superintendent Osei is the first Ghanaian female to ever win the award.

President Akufo-Addo in his speech during the 62nd Independence day anniversary parade commended the police service for representing the nation in various capacities in the stabilisation of peace in the world.

He said: “In a region and continent claimed by several incidents of strife, our police have seen the ravages of war and helped to stabilise the peace.

“They have served in international peacekeeping operations in just about every troubled spot in the world, in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire, Namibia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Georgia and Iraq.

“Currently our officers from the Ghana Police Service are providing peacekeeping duties in both Sudan and South Sudan as well as in Somalia and the Central African Republic.

Mr The President added that Ghana’s police serve with distinction wherever they go “ in this respect, I congratulate Chief Superintendent Phyllis Osei for winning the distinguished award in 2018 of the UN Female Police Officer of the year”.
