The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana, (CLOGSAG) has served notice that it will embark on a nationwide strike if the government fails to address all issues regarding the implementation of the three-tier pension scheme in two-weeks.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Issac Bampoe Addo, said although President Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations to liaise with SSNIT to bring finality to all outstanding issues regarding the implementation of the three-tier pension scheme, nothing had been done.
According to the Executive Secretary, the position of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) and SSNIT “is at variance with the directives of the president, hence the decision of CLOGSAG to give the government a two-week ultimatum”.
“CLOGSAG is serving notice that if within two weeks the issues raised are not adequately resolved, it would be compelled to embark on a nationwide strike to back its demands,” Mr Addo cautioned.
In a related development, President, Akufo-Addo, on May 2019, issued a 3-month ultimatum to the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations to liaise with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) to resolve all outstanding issues related to pension management in the country without delay.

There have been several complaints by workers about the management of their pensions by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Many workers have raised concerns about the activities of the Trust, with most feeling shortchanged over their contributions.
