To Get Your Boss to Stop Micromanaging, Clarify Expectations

Do you ever feel like your boss is doing your job for you, preventing you from doing your best work? If your manager is stepping on your toes and getting in your way, have a discussion to clarify the expectations around your role. This might reveal that your boss isn’t even aware of what they’re doing. You can also ask if you’re falling short on some tasks — a gentle way to clue your boss in, or open up a door to important feedback. Micromanaging might be your boss’s way of trying to fix a problem that you weren’t aware existed. If nothing else is working, be direct: Point out the consequences of their behavior, unintended or not, and then try problem solving together.
