Construction workers at the a in the Ningo Prampram District on Thursday embarked on a sit down strike over poor conditions of service.

The workers, clad in red arm and head bands laid down their tools and converged at the entrance of the site.

According to Graphiconline Tema Correspondent, Benjamin Xornam Glover, the workers chanted protest songs denied access to vehicles that tried to enter the facility.

The workers claimed that talks with their employers, Construtora OAS Ghana Limited over their conditions of service have yielded no results.

They accused management for exploiting workers and not paying attention to the health and wellbeing of the staff.

According to them they are deprived of routine medical care and also complained about the quality of food given them at the construction site.

“The rice and chicken meals is tasteless and not nutritious,” they said.

Leadership of the Building and Construction Workers Union were engaged in a meeting with management to find an amicable solution to the problem.

The Seglemi Housing Project embarked on by the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing is supposed to see the construction of 1,502 housing units under phase one.
