President John Dramani Mahama has promised each Black Stars player $25,000 for the gallant performance they put up at the just ended African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea.
This is separate from all other bonuses from the team’s sponsor; Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) would pay to the players.
The Black Stars painfully missed out on an AFCON trophy on Sunday, when they lost the final on penalty shootouts to Cote D’Ivoire.
President Mahama made the announcement on Tuesday when the team today paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff house.
He congratulated the Stars for the spirited display in the Tournament saying “the Black Stars have restored our confidence in the senior national football team.”
The President, also congratulated the Coach, Avram Grant. However, Black Stars players swept all the prestigious awards at the tournament, including the tournament’s best player awards which went to midfielder Christian Atsu.
