The Ghana Civil Aviation has directed all domestic airlines to halt flight operations to Tamale, the Northern regional capital.

The directive follows what the authority describes as bad weather conditions which makes visibility a challenge for pilots to safely operate in the region.

A number of flights have already been cancelled prior to the directive.
President Mahama was not able to land in Tamale over the weekend for the same reason.

Speaking to the Citi Business News, Acting Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Alhassan Abdulai said its forecast show the weather will be clear by Wednesday to allow the resumption of operations again.

“We gave them a weather report. So based on the weather report, we told them about Tamale. In fact since two days ago, visibility in Tamale has been very bad, we have advised that that they stay till we have had improvement”, he said.

“It is a safety issue. So normally, if we report that, no pilot will want to fly. We are projecting by Wednesday, it should clear”, he added.
