A new shopping centre, West Hills Mall Limited, constructed at a cost of $93 million, will open for business today.

The mall, which is jointly owned by Delico Property Development Limited and the  Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), will house over 65 line shops with two supermarket major tenants.

Located in the Western part of Accra, the West Hills Mall is expected to attract thousands of shoppers daily.

When the Daily Graphic visited the shop at Dunkonah, near Weija in Accra, yesterday, both local and international tenants, including Shoprite, Palace, Edgars, Mr Price, Woolworth, Barcellos, and Food Inn, had moved in with their merchandise.

Other tenants of the mall, especially those operating restaurants, were busily putting finishing touches to their shops.

Although the official launch of the mall is slated for next month, the tenants are expecting many shoppers to visit the place today.

The project, which was started 18 months ago on approximately 23 acres, has a parking bay for 1,209 cars.

As part of the design of the mall, an interchange has been constructed to ensure unimpeded vehicular movement to forestall a potential traffic build-up.

Official launch

The Chairman of Delico Property Development Limited, Mr Kofi Sekyere, said ahead of the launch next month, all the major structures and architectural designs had been properly tested.

“We have put in place every facility to ensure that shoppers who come to the West Hill Mall enjoy the best customer experience,” he said.

Mr Sekyere said the mall would not only open up communities within the Dunkonah area, but also create job opportunities for more than 1,000 residents.

Interchange

The Director of Delico Property Development Limited, Mr Kofi Gyimah, said lessons were learnt from the vehicular situation at the Accra Mall for which reason measures had been put in place to avoid that same problem at the West Hills Mall.

“We have a specially designed interchange near the mall to ensure smooth vehicular traffic flow and we have also designed a pedestrian underpass for persons entering the mall on foot, so they will not compete with vehicles,” he said.

Asked when the West Hills Mall interchange would be completed, Mr Gyimah said all the major construction works had been done, adding that “it’s left with a small portion which is expected to be completed in November”.
