I had a conversation with a very talented young engineer today. Now whiles he admits loving his job, he couldn’t help mentioning that it was stressful as well. How is it that most of us are finding ourselves in that situation? I believe it has to do with the fact that we are not achieving the right work-life balance.
Contrary to what most people think, you CAN have work-life balance. As a matter of fact, you cannot afford not to. Failing to do so will mean the things you (should) treasure the most will suffer (family, your health, friendships, your faith walk…), and all the money you make will never get them back.
Here are some of the reasons we fail to achieve work-life balance:
1. Lack of discipline to focus on the right priorities
2. Unhealthy competition and pursuit of more
3. The inability to say NO to unreasonable demand on our time
4. Poor planning and execution
