“TRAVELING – IT LEAVES YOU SPEECHLESS, THEN TURNS YOU INTO A STORYTELLER.” – IBN BATTUTA.
Are you completely stressed out? Do you feel like quitting your work? Do you want to ditch your routine?
If you answered yes to all three of these questions, you need a vacation, my friend! It is not necessary to save money all year long to take a trip on holiday. I mean, it is agreeable that a planned and well-thought vacation has its perks. But smaller, spontaneous trips are worth it too.
We should at least travel once a month. Whether it is out of a city or county trip, it should happen every now and then. And especially whenever we find ourselves in stressful situations, traveling can be a successful escape.
Even though one must not need reasons when it comes to traveling but here are some to motivate you and get you booking that next flight!
1. Traveling is not as difficult as we think
As I mentioned before, spontaneous trips are also worth it. We seem to believe that traveling is just a luxury for the rich. Or maybe even one well-planned trip at the end of the year will cure our woes. But this is not true. Since technology has made our lives easier in every aspect, traveling is a significant part of that revolution too.
Technology has revolutionized traveling and tourism. It would take you just a few Google searches and clicks to plan a monthly trip by road, train, or flight. So maybe it’s time we change our perception that traveling is not as stressful as we think. In fact, travelling nowadays has become even more comfortable due to apps like Airbnb that allow you to not even fret about booking hotels. The app books a safe place to stay according to your requirements just as you make your payment. And you can achieve all this by sitting in your house through a single app.
2. Disconnect from your daily routine
It provides us an easy escape, away from our worldly affairs. Following the same old daily routine can be draining. Factors like driving to your workspace and spending long hours in front of a computer screen only make you hate your job more and lose interest in any other social activities as well. Disconnecting from your daily routine through a travel journey is internally healing. Your mental exhaustion because of the daily tasks you perform leaves you no good. Taking some time out for yourself can hugely impact your mentality and help you clear the mess out.
3. Undeniable health benefits
Travelling reduces stress and tension. It decreases the chance of heart attack as well as cures your anxiety and depression. You might think that traveling can only be a timely cure, and after a trip is over, you’ll be back to feeling depressed. This may be true, but even clearing your head, for the time being, can be hugely beneficial to your health.
Also, do make sure to have yourself vaccinated before traveling to any exotic locations where there is a chance of dangerous diseases. Also, it is highly recommended to check the weather of your travel destination. So that you can pack your clothes accordingly and take precautionary measures in an emergency weather situation like rain in Ghana.
4. Learn new languages
Everybody would agree on this that they would love to learn a new language. The real beauty of a language lies in hearing a native speaker. And what better chance are we getting of this unless we step out. Taking a trip has a lot of perks, and learning a new language is one of them. This attribute would make you instantly an interesting person among your peers and expand your knowledge even further. Because who doesn’t like to sing all those Latino songs in Spanish and quote Nietzsche in Greek? See, it also sounds cooler. So get your language coursework service started, before you take that trip.
5. Better cultural understanding
Travelling offers a fantastic chance to have a better cultural knowledge about the places you’re traveling to. Living on the other side of the world, with no awareness of different cultures, is plain ignorant. Or worse, you do know about a place’s customs but as portrayed by the media. Now the media can be delusional, and to respect other people’s cultures, we should do a thorough study of our travel destination. Just like Vietnam went from war place to tourist’s den, it is rude to have preconceived notions about a country/city. Therefore, travel with proper knowledge to a new place to be able to embrace its authentic culture and traditions truly.
It is even better to keep in mind that religious beliefs have primarily influenced a particular country’s cultures. Any dominant religion that the population of the country follows makes it the basis of the cultural norms they have. For example India is influenced by Hinduism, Malaysia is influenced by Buddhism and Iran is influenced by Islam.
6. New and amazing food
I can travel to any corner of the world just for food. The idea of trying new food items and dishes is the most appealing to me out of all the reasons. Think about it. We have been eating only one type of food or maybe two since our childhoods. Adulthood exposes us to many more, different types of food groups that land us among the continental and fusion dishes. Getting a chance to travel to a place where a particular meal has originated from is an appealing idea. A fruit or a spice, conceived at a specific place and getting to try it, there can be a once in a lifetime experience. So then why not go for it? Unless you have a severe food allergy, there is no reason to not travel for food. From Ghanaian dishes to Turkish delights and Mexican chili peppers, the list goes on.
7. Unleash your inner adventurer
We learned about different landscapes and water bodies in school. Right at that moment, we all dreamt of climbing the Himalayas or taking a deep-sea dive in the Caribbean or enjoy a walk along the Cape Coast in Ghana. If I tell you that these were not just dreams and can be easily turned into reality? Yes, that is true. Travelling unleashes your inner adventurer. Something that you must have dreamed about in your spare time can now be a part of your stark reality. You have to gear up and get going.
And it is not even necessary that you turn to your childhood dreams to decide your adventure spot. A canopied rainforest, an uphill hike, or just a photo walk in a wildlife park can serve your purpose. You need to identify the adventure your body and mind craves. From going 10 feet deep in water to 50 feet up above in the sky, any adventure would refresh your mind. You just have to be daring enough.
8. Move on in your life
Let me give you some tips to make your travel journey more exotic than it already is. It is nothing more than the fact that you need to move on in your life. Sometimes with all the bills and taxes and workload, we might feel stuck. Travelling opens your eyes to newer prospects in life. Just take deep breathes and enjoy every sunset you see because it is proof that a new day is due tomorrow. The sun will rise again with new and even better opportunities to live your life to the fullest.
Learn to live in the moment. We tend to get stuck in our past. Any tragedy or trauma that would have struck us some time ago becomes the sole definition of our personality. Hence, we should learn to appreciate the present time. Our past, no matter how traumatic, should not define us. We should be defined by the choices we make today. Like a choice to take a journey across the world just for our wellbeing.
9. A lifetime supply of memories
Have you decided on your winter look and got your premiumjackets ready? Pack up that camera that is eating dust and set out on the memorable adventure that you need so badly. Because after coming back when you miss that place, these pictures in these looks will make you relive the memories. And as frequently as you travel, the more you create an endless supply of amazing memories to live by. That supply will last you a lifetime, and you can show these pictures to your future kids and motivate them to take an adventure of their own.
10. Make new friends
Just as you have colleagues and work buddies, you can even make travel buddies. Traveling with a loved one, partner or a friend can be amazing. But making new friends is even more exciting – especially since it is so easy to connect to them afterward through social media. You can expand your social circle. Invite them over to your country and indirectly help your country’s tourism grow. And just as you are collecting all these benefits, you will have a new friend to share these experiences with.
Concluding thoughts
We should travel just for the sake of it. If you can afford it and are legally capable of doing it, then there is certainly nothing stopping you. From that next exotic island that appears in your Instagram feed to the childhood dream destination, the possibilities are endless. The sky is the limit, my friend, and you have to click launch!
