Meet the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Alhassan Tampuli

The National Petroleum Authority was established by an Act of Parliament (NPA Act 2005, ACT 691) to regulate the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana.

As a Regulator, the National Petroleum Authority ensures that the industry remains efficient, profitable, fair, and at the same time, ensures that consumers receive value for money.

Also, The object of the Authority is to regulate, oversee and monitor activities in the petroleum downstream industry and where applicable do so in pursuance of the prescribed petroleum pricing formula.

The National Petroleum Autority is managed by a 27-member team headed by the Chief Executive Officer, Alhassan Tampuli.

Meet the CEO of NPA, Alhassan Tampuli


Mr. Alhassan Tampuli is a graduate of the school of administration of the UG (now University of Ghana Business School) and Faculty of Law, UG. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2011.

He holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) in Energy and Environmental law from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.


National Petroleum Authority CEO previously worked with the National Service Scheme and rose to the rank of Deputy Head of HR and Acting Director of Postings. He later set up and headed the Legal Department of the scheme between April 2014 and November 2015.

Thereafter, Mr. Tampuli worked with the prestigious law firm, Bentsi – Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah’s Energy and Natural Resource Practice Group as an Associate before co-founding the law firm East-bridge Associates, a corporate law firm.

Mr. Tampuli taught constitutional law at the faculty of law of the Winsconsin International University College for the 2014/15 academic year before resigning to concentrate on his private legal practice. 

He was also a member of the NPP’s manifesto subcommittee on Energy and the Transition Subcommittee on Energy.
