Sources close to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC has revealed that there is a possibility the commission will announce the reviewed utility tariffs next week, instead of Friday, February 1, 2019.

PURC had hoped to finish engaging the utility companies by Thursday as well, for the announcement to be made on Friday, February 1 2019.

But a source at the PURC has stated that the new owners of the Electricity Company of Ghana, this week came up with a concern that would make it difficult for the Commission to start applying the new tariffs from Friday, February 1.

According to ghanatalksbusiness.com source, all is set for the new utility tariffs announcement and that the postponement has nothing to do with their inability to finalize work on the tariffs.

In a related development, The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has postponed the takeover of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) by Power Distribution Services (PDS).

A statement from the authority copied to ghanatalksbusiness.com stated that the decision was taken at a Special Meeting on Thursday 31st January 2019.

Meralco Consortium which won the bid to take over the operations of ECG, has a majority share in Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited was expected to take over from February 1, 2019.
