A strike action by some workers at the University of Ghana Medical School has disrupted practical lessons being held there.

The workers are striking over the non-payment of their market premium allowance.

More than thousand staff made up of drivers, orderlies, cleaners and other support staff have boycotted work.

Other facilities such as the main dental department, which is the largest in Africa have been closed to the public due to the strike.

Joy New’s Fred Smith who was at the school reports that doctors there say they cannot work without the ancillary staff.
