Food Prices in Ghana: How you might spend on food in September 2019

All things being equal, most food prices in Ghana are expected to drop in price because of the harvesting of most crops.

According to Esoko, food prices in Ghana continued their downward trend at the end of trading in August. Tomato dipped by 26% to close at GHS 356.50 per crate with Pona also dropping by 17.15% to close at GHS 658.83. Cassava dropped by 4.79% to close at GHS 69.50 with Maize also dropping 2.03% to close at GHS 158.86 per bag.

Both imported and local rice dropped marginally by 0.17% to close at GHS 352.20 and GHS 326.86 respectively.

However, Other food prices in Ghana increased in the month of August; Cowpea gained 2.32% to close at GHS 384.14 per bag with Groundnut also gaining 2.28% to close at GHS 569.86 per bag. Millet gained 1.99% to close at GHS 234.29 per bag, while Soya gained 1.09% to close at GHS 238.14. Gari and Wheat inched up by 0.94% and 0.13% to close at GHS 198.57 and GHS 309.00 respectively.

Maize

The average price for a bag of maize dropped 2.03% to close the month at GHS 158.86. The highest price of GHS 227 was recorded at Takoradi and the lowest price of GHS 107 at Bawku.

Rice Local

Food prices in Ghana: The average price for a bag of local rice dropped 0.17% to close the month at GHS 326.86. The highest price of GHS 400 was recorded at Accra, while Takoradi had the lowest price of GHS 260.

Tomato

Food prices in Ghana : A crate of tomato dropped 26.77% to close the month at GHS 356.50. The highest price of GHS 490 was recorded at Dambai and the lowest price of GHS 236.00 recorded at Accra.
