The Bui Power Authority (BPA) says it is likely there will be a controlled spillage of the Bui reservoir on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
Consequently, the Bui Power Authority has instituted adequate measures to ensure that life and property are protected during and after the spillage.
In a statement, signed and issued by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Fred Oware, the BPA said it was currently sensitising communities along the downstream river channel and also monitoring inflows upstream.
It said it will undertake the controlled spillage “if observed inflows exceed what the reservoir can accommodate. Based on our projections, it is likely that there will be a Controlled Spillage” on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.

This action would be undertaken in the event that the reservoir reaches elevation 182.50.
According to the statement, BPA had earlier, in 2015, during a similar exercise, identified some areas and communities downstream that were likely to be affected by the water spillage and so is working with the district assemblies and emergency services to cater for any challenges to life and property.
The spillage will not have significant effect on the accumulated inflows for operations of the BGS in 2020.
The BGS, currently, dispatches power from two generating units with the third under comprehensive maintenance.
The maximum operating level of the BGS is 183 masl and a minimum operating level of 168 masl.
Meanwhile, the BPA has debunked videos circulating on social media showing an overflow of water onto some roads in the Savanna Region purported to be coming from the Bui Generating Station (BGS) controlled spillage exercise.
