Iain Walker, British High Commissioner to Ghana has called on the government to as a matter of necessity clear any hindrance that prevent a smooth running of businesses Ghana.
The British High Commissioner cited, “the ease of doing business and the poor tax mobilization drive” as challenges to doing business in Ghana.
Mr Walker was answering questions from journalists in preparedness for the third edition of the UK-Ghana Business Council engagements to be held in Ghana.
The High Commissioner described Ghana as the best destination of doing business in Africa but the barriers need to be addressed to boost investor confidence.
He believes the UK is in a position to invest in Ghana’s endless project needs but must be prioritized to make ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ a reality.
He said, “We bring in UK expertise and partnership that help grow the Ghanaian economy. We are not cutting aid to Ghana but we have diversified our partnership into support various sectors from agriculture, digitization, pharmaceuticals, extraction, infrastructure, textiles and garment industries”.
A host of UK delegation is expected in the country from October 2, 2019, to sign trade agreements to strengthen bilateral ties.
The High Commissioner indicated that signing these agreements will provide a platform for “open and frank conversations” between the two countries to foster trade relations.

So far, the UK government has made some significant investments in Ghana’s economy including the modernization and expansion of Kumasi market, airport and construction of Bekwai Hospital with £130 million.
