The local management of the global ride-hailing app giant, Uber, has denied reports that it has suspended operations in Ghana following the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Rumours were rife on social media that the world’s leading ride-hailing App has suspended its services due to the reported cases of the deadly covid-19 in Ghana,
According to one of the messages, purported to be emanating from a supposed Uber Drivers Association, the drivers had suspended their services indefinitely.
“As at Saturday, 14th March, 2020, two of our drivers were showing symptoms of the disease. They have gone for medical examination and waiting for their samples to be tested” the statement read.
But Uber has denied the report
But in a swift rebuttal shared on social media the Country Manager of Uber Ghana, Jessica Poku, assured riders that the app is operating without any challenges.
She was however quick to state that that Uber is working to distribute sanitizers to its drivers across the country, as part of several measures they were undertaken to protect their drivers and riders as well as the general public from the disease.
Ghana has so far recorded 6 cases of the COVID-19 involving Ghanaians and foreign nationals.
All the cases have been described as imported as the affected persons traveled into the country from different countries.
