A joint statement by the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Power Distribution Services (PDS) has charged PDS to provide all activities related to electricity retail as a short-term arrangement.
According to the statement, the short-term arrangement is “to ensure that there is no disruption of power supply and service delivery” to customers.
The government on Tuesday 30th July suspended the power deal it signed with PDS. The Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, communicated the decision via a press release.
The statement said the action to suspend PDS became necessary due to “the detection of fundamental and material breaches of PDS’ obligation in the provision of Payment Securities (Demand Guarantees) for the transaction which have been discovered upon further due diligence”.
Meanwhile, PDS in a response to the government’s decision to suspend the power distribution company, PDS maintains it has not erred and that government rushed in it’s decision.
