MTN Ghana has officially launched its super high-speed plug and play internet router, the MTN TurboNet.

The launch, which was held at the Accra Digital Center, is also part of several activities outlined to mark this year’s MTN iFest (Internet Festival) celebrations.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of MTN Mr. Selorm Adadevoh indicated that the MTN TurboNet symbolises a revolution in the digital space.

He said, “We call this a “revolution” because it is exactly that. Today, in the year 2019, old technologies such as ADSL (running on copper lines) and the more recent Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) continue to be the prevalent solution for high-speed home internet in Ghana, but these together cover far less than 4% of our 5million+ homes. For us at MTN, we believe every Ghanaian deserves the benefits of a modern connected life and instead of just talking about it, we have chosen to do something about it – by revolutionizing the high-speed home broadband industry through the MTN TurboNet solution”.

He added, “Basically, you can now purchase the MTN Turbonet device and be connected within minutes. No need for long application forms, surveys or waiting for engineers at home.”

“Our speed tests show that you can achieve up to 300Mbps on a good day and this is just like browsing on a high-end “Fibre-like” network on our 4G+ / LTE Advanced network.”

In his address, the Deputy Minister for Communications, George Andah indicated that increased broadband penetration which is reliable, affordable and accessible nationwide will facilitate Ghana’s participation in the 4th Industrial Revolution and it will complement the efforts of Government to attain the objectives of the Digital Agenda.

He said, “The introduction of this solution by MTN would support Government’s efforts in bridging the digital divide gap so that our citizens can access digital initiatives of Government such as e-Payment, generation of digital addresses, the e-Procurement, e-Justice system, e-immigration system, e-Parliament system, e-Passport and others. He concluded by commending MTN for investing in the innovation of the MTN TurboNet.

Customers who have used the device during the commercial pilot shared their experiences with audience at the launch. They include the CEO of Agrocenta, Francis Appiah Obirikorang and a Tech Blogger, Kwesi Arko who confirmed the features of the Turbonet and the high speed data it provides.

The MTN TurboNet is a plug and play super high-speed 4G internet router. It comes with a high-powered external antenna and data SIM that enables it to deliver fast internet in MTN 4G locations. It provides instant high-speed internet for up to 32 users at the same time but should be within MTN’s 4G coverage area, the bundle is pre-paid as well. To get started, the MTN customer simply buys the TurboNet router at any MTN outlet for GHS300, which comes with a 4G SIM card, and a 5 GB worth of data.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion included MTN Executives, the Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority, Mr. Kwaku Sakyi Addo, Director of ICT, Ghana Police Service ACP Vance Gariba, Deputy Director General CID -ACP George Nana Tweneboah, and Managing Director of Huawei, Tommy Zhou.
