The senior minister, Osafo Maafo has admonished the business community to put government on its toes. “…put us on our toes… That is the way to grow the nation. That is why we have expertise in the nation” he noted while addressing attendees at this year`s Ghana Economic Forum. He expressed hopes that “simple”, “straight-forward” and “practical recommendations” will be forth-coming to put government on its toes. The senior statesman among other things spoke about the need for decentralization, digitization of public sector system and the widening of the tax base; he also spoke about the advances government is making towards these ends.
This year`s edition of the Ghana Economic Forum 2008, a private sector-led event kick-started yesterday, September 4th at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra themed “Building a competitive economy for sustainable growth.” The event ends today 5th of September, 2018.
The first day of the 2-day event was moderated by Bernard Avle of Citi FM. Speakers and panelists for yesterday`s session included Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku, incoming Managing Director, Barclays Bank; Mr. Jeff Gable, Head of Research, Absa Group Ltd. and Dr. Lord Mensah, senior lecturer, University of Ghana Business School among others.
