The 11.17% and 8.01% tariffs increment for electricity and Water approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) takes effect from today July 1 2019.
The decision to increase tariffs was taken after careful consideration of proposals by the various stakeholders in the power sector and the Ghana Water Company, a press statement signed by the Executive Secretary of PURC, Mrs Mami Dufie Ofori said at a presser last.
She added that the increase is for the recovery of total electricity revenue requirement for the regulated electricity market.
“In taking the above decisions, the Commission received and considered tariff proposals from stakeholders including the following utility service providers in the electricity and water sectors: Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Enclave Power Company Limited (EPC)”.
Maame Dufie Ofori, said the depreciation of the cedi to the dollar, projected inflation rate and increasing electricity and water demands have additionally necessitated the increment.
